Set a project budget & read the burn meter

How time targets work and what the on, near, and over states mean.

A budget in Timeglass is a time target: the number of hours a project is expected to take. As work is attributed to the project, a burn meter shows how much of that target is used up.

Set a target

   Create or edit a project
   On the Projects page, click Create, or open a project and choose Edit details.

   Enter a time target
   In the Time target (hours) field, enter the expected hours (for example, 160). Leave it blank for no target.

Managers and admins can set targets. Once a target is saved, project rows and detail pages show pacing against it.

Read the burn meter

Each project row shows a meter with a health state:

• On track: comfortably within target, showing “X left against target.”
• Near: approaching the target.
• Over: past the target, showing “X over target” with a warning marker.

A project that is inactive and over target is flagged Stalled, which means it has passed its target without recent activity.

Completed projects

When you mark a project complete, its meter settles into a final outcome: how many hours it came in under or over target, so you have a clean record for the next estimate.
