Split or merge activities

Divide one activity across clients or projects, or combine two activities.

Split one activity into several when it covers more than one piece of work, such as a call that served two clients. Merge two activities when they are really the same work.

Split an activity

  1. Open Split
Open the activity on your timesheet and select Split. You can also select Split on its Power Review card.
  2. Describe each new activity
The split starts with two activities. The first keeps the original description and assignment. Type a description for each one, and Timeglass fills in its client, project, and category. Change any of them with the pickers. Select Add activity to split into more than two.
  3. Confirm the split
Select Confirm split. Timeglass sorts the original activity’s time between the new activities.
  4. Check the result
The Review split card shows which items went where. Move an item to a different activity, or adjust each activity’s time with the minus and plus buttons. Select Undo split to restore the original activity.

Merge two activities

  1. Open Merge
Open the activity you want to fold into another one and select Merge.
  2. Choose the target
Under Merge into…, pick the activity it belongs with.
  3. Merge
Select Merge. The target keeps its description and assignment, and its time absorbs the merged activity’s time, so the day’s total doesn’t change.

Changed your mind? Select Undo in the confirmation that appears after the merge.

What can be merged

  • Activities from the same person, day, and team.
  • Hidden activities can’t be merge targets. Merge only appears when there is at least one activity to merge into.
  • Managers who can manage their team’s activity can also merge on a team member’s timesheet.

Common questions

Can I split one activity across multiple clients?

Yes. Open the activity, select Split, give each new activity its client, and select Confirm split. In the desktop app, the new activities can share a description as long as their clients or projects differ. On the web, each one needs a different description.

Can I undo a split or merge?

Yes. Select Undo split on the Review split card, or Undo in the confirmation that appears after a merge.

Does merging change my total?

No. The activity you merge into absorbs the other activity’s time, so the day’s total stays the same.
