API keys and webhooks

Connect Timeglass to your billing, payroll, or project tools.

Connect Timeglass to your billing, payroll, or project tools so data moves between them without exports.

API keys

An API key lets another system read your workspace’s Timeglass data, such as timesheets, projects, clients, and meetings. A key belongs to the workspace, not to a person.

  1. Open Settings → API Keys.
  2. Select Create API key and name it after the tool it’s for, such as Reporting integration.
  3. Choose a scope. Read only reads data. Read & write can also create and update clients, and create, update, and delete projects and activity categories.
  4. Copy the key and store it securely. It isn’t shown again.

Lost a key? Delete it and create a new one. Tools using a deleted key stop working within a minute.

Webhooks

Webhooks keep Timeglass in step with the system that holds your clients and projects, such as Acme’s billing or project tool. Under Settings → Webhooks, select Add endpoint and enter the web address of the service that connects the two. Then choose what it does:

  • Clients & projects: Daily sync brings your clients and projects into Timeglass before timesheets are prepared.
  • Time: Send approved time sends approved hours back out, including later edits and removals.

Clients, projects, and categories can carry your own ids from the other system, so records match on both sides. Building the connecting service usually needs a developer or an automation tool.

Technical documentation

The API documentation covers every endpoint. Getting started walks through a first request, and the webhooks guide covers setup, security, and retries.

Common questions

Who can create API keys and webhooks?

Workspace owners and admins. Settings → API Keys and Settings → Webhooks are hidden from everyone else.

I lost my API key. Can I see it again?

No. A key is only shown once. Delete it in Settings → API Keys and create a new one.

Can Timeglass send approved time to our billing or payroll system automatically?

Yes. Under Settings → Webhooks, add an endpoint and turn on Send approved time. Time is sent when it’s approved, and sent again if it’s edited or removed.

Where is the API documentation?

At timeglass.ai/docs, with a getting started guide and a webhooks guide.
